Solar thermal systems, also called solar water heating systems, use heat from the sun to warm domestic hot water.
A solar thermal system uses solar panels which are fitted to either your existing roof, or a new roof, depending on your project. These panels collect heat from the sun and use it to heat water stored within a hot water cylinder. There are two types of solar panel you can install:
Flat plate system which can be fitted on your existing roof or integrated into a new roof structure
Evacuated tube system
We work with a number of manufacturers across the industry to ensure that we always install the correct panels and fitting system for your property.
You may be able to receive payments for the heat you generate using a solar thermal system through the UK Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive, this can provide a significant contribution towards the overall cost of the installation.
As an approved MCS installer, our installations are typically installed with a VAT rate of only 5%.
Solar PV is a renewable energy technology that uses the power of the sun to generate electricity. Solar thermal is a technology that uses the power of the sun to heat water for your home.
Using solar thermal panels on the roof of a single dwelling house is usually considered to be within ‘permitted development rights’ under planning law, so there is usually no need to apply for planning permission.
