Boiler Upgrade Scheme

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) launched on 1st April 2022. The government scheme aims to replace the Renewable Heat Incentive and will offer grants of £9,000* to eligible homeowners and small businesses in England and Wales.

The Government Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a scheme which will provide grants to encourage property owners to remove oil or gas boilers and install low carbon heating systems such as heat pumps. It is open to domestic and small non-domestic properties in England and Wales and will run from 2022 to 2028. We’re finding many new build properties now install a heat pump instead of traditional gas or oil boilers.

Changing the way we heat our homes and properties can help us to reduce carbon emissions and address climate change issues, however the cost of installation can be a barrier for many households.

Under the scheme, you can get:

• £7,500 off the cost and installation of an air source heat pump*
• £7,500 off the cost and installation of a ground source heat pump*

The following technologies are eligible for the BUS:

• air source heat pumps (not including air-to-air heat pumps)
• ground source heat pumps
• ground source heat pumps as part of a shared ground loop
• biomass boilers
